We have had a lovely time in our Meadows class this week! It has been wonderful to see the children start to settle well into the nursery routine and begin to make friends! During our morning carpet time we have introduced saying hello in English and different home languages and it’s amazing to the children’s beaming smiles when they recognise their mother tongue!

This week the focus has been on our families and special people in the children’s lives.

We added family photos to our community board and appreciated the diversity of our school. We created pictures of our families with leaves, conkers, sticks, shells and pebbles. At the same time, we explored different textures, like smooth conkers and their spiky shells, smooth pebbles and rough sticks. Some children were keen to work in our craft area and make pictures of their houses. All this gave us plenty of opportunities to talk about where we live and who lives with us.

We also talked about different parts of the body and skin tones while mixing paint and drawing self-portraits. We’ve also been introducing songs about different parts of the body like ‘’Head, shoulders, knees and toes’’, ‘’Elephants have wrinkles’’, ‘’The skeleton dance’’, among others.

We enjoyed the mild sunny weather while exploring our outside spaces: we were looking for different objects and shapes around the playground and we were finally allowed to go on the bikes! The long awaited helmets have arrived this week so we have had our class puppet friend, Luna, talk about the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bike, the traffic rules and using the sand timer when taking turns.

It’s been busy but we’ve had lots of fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!
