This week, we have loved delving into the inner world of Lucas, one of the main characters in ‘The Impossible.’ Faced with impossible choices and moral dilemmas, how does he respond? We have been so interested by Lucas’ character transformation; from moody teen to compassionate citizen. One child in Antares commented, “It’s like his troubles have unlocked a key of kindness in him.” This has led to broader discussions about how setbacks and trials in life can be powerful forces for good, releasing empathy and helping us to understand the plight of others.

The children have enjoyed role playing and discussing the concept of dialogue; particularly the relationship and differences between internal dialogue and external dialogue. They wrote some fantastic pieces, showing Lucas’ emotion through the interplay between Lucas’ internal and external dialogue.

In Maths, our brains have had a good workout with problems involving area and perimeter of shapes: Maths sheets

In Topic, we have been exploring how to build stable structures that might survive an earthquake:

Some of our children had a great time at cross country too and represented our school beautifully:

Next week:

  • Maths – we will be diving deep into division
  • English – we’ll continue our unit on The Impossible with a particular focus on flashbacks.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
