Welcome back, we hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half term break!

We embarked on our new topic of Humanoids this week, focusing on the text I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. This text is available on a range of different websites in pdf format, for those of you who would like to follow along with the short stories at home!

Humanoids Curriculum Overview

In English, we developed our vocabulary bank for this topic and applied the range of new words to character and setting development. Our grammar focus was verb tenses, looking at simple past, simple present and simple future tense with the root verbs: to be, to do, to have, to feel.

We continued to practise using protractors to measure angles in maths, extending our learning by solving a range of questions and problems that involved estimating, measuring, comparing and ordering angles. Next week we will be looking at shape/geometry.

Maths Sheets W1

It’s quite an exciting term in year 5, as we have a range of new subjects to teach! We started our Spanish curriculum this week, learning a range of different greetings, and embarked on our DIALLS journey with the picture book Zaterdag by Saskia Halfmouw.

We considered the idea ‘What does it mean to be human?’ in Philosophy for Children and developed our online social skills through the Natterhub curriculum that the school has subscribed to.

We will also be starting Forest School next week, an email will be sent out to you directly by our Forest School teacher with a kit list and other relevant information. Forest School will be taking place on these days:

  • Fuji – Tuesdays
  • Sagarmatha – Mondays
  • Olympus – Thursdays
