Welcome to the summer term – and what a week it’s been: full of drama, Shakespeare, art, Science and more!

Our new topic is ‘Our Capital’ and is summarised below:

“During this topic, children will gain an understanding of the growth of London, from a basic settlement into the global economic powerhouse it is today. They will explore how human and physical geography intersect as they consider the qualities of an early settlement – what is the best site and situation to settle? What then makes it a capital? Tracking the history from the earliest settlers up until the modern-day Londoner, children will explore the diversity that exists at the heart of London and the trade links that have made it so successful. Finally, they will reflect upon the challenges facing the city’s future and decide if it can be called truly great.”

We have started our new topic with an in-depth exploration of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. The pupils in year 5 have taken part in active storytelling, drama and written tasks to explore the various worlds and characters present in the play and will continue to do so next week.

We recapped place value this week, including ordering, rounding and identifying numbers. Our maths sheets are below:
