And once again we are the end of another wonderful term. Highlights of Summer 1 have been our Caythorpe residential, creating puppet shows and our jubilee celebration lunch.

During English this week, we looked at script writing. We began by looking at features of a script and then each child worked with their theatre group to create a script for their theatre performance. These were used on Thursday and Friday when we performed our finished shows to groups of children from the Year 3 classes.

In Maths this week we continued to look at fractions. This week’s focus was looking at fractions of whole numbers. We used to bar charts to understand how we would first split our number into equal groups and then multiply these by the number of groups we need. For example; 2 fifths of 25 – we would calculate that 1 fifth was 5 and then 2 fifths would be 10. The Maths sheets for this week are here: Maths Worksheets S1W6

In Science this week we focused on our scientific investigation skills and how we can conduct an experiment to answer a question. We explored whether opaque, transparent and translucent materials cast shadows and if there are any that create stronger shadows.

We finished the week with an RE morning where we looked at the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We used to drama to consider how the three versions of ‘Jesus Calms the Storm’ were different and how this may have happened. We then also looked at Jesus feeds the 5000 and considered what lessons Christians may take from the Gospel stories.

We have continued our Sounds-Write spelling program, this week looking at the ‘ar’ sound. Here are the words that we have been looking at this week: Spelling words

To end the week the whole school celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a party in the inner quad. We began by singing the National Anthem together and then were treated to a wonderful lunch which included sandwiches, pizza, crudités and cakes.

Thank you for all of your support across the year so far and we look forward to seeing you in June for our final term of Year 4!
