Even in just three days, Year 3 have done so much learning this week! This week marked our annual book week where we looked at the story of “The Tin Soldier” By Hans Christian Anderson. We firstly explored the story through becoming the characters and acting out the long and arduous journey taken by the tin soldier.
After learning about his journey, in groups we devised our own conversation between the soldier and the ballerina, imagining what they would say to each other. Some of us thought that the ballerina would be impressed by the tin soldiers bravery, whilst others thought she would feel very confused by his feelings for her, as they have never spoken to one another. Using this we created comic strips to represent these conversations and predict how we thought the story would end, with a focus on direct speech. Additionally in the week we debated the statement “The ballerina should like the soldier because he went on a dangerous journey just to get back to her. The children articulated whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement, using language that challenged one another in a respectful way. Finally we wrote and published our own endings into our special toy room books that we created. Don’t they look wonderful!
This week in maths we have been focusing on our 3 times table and our recall of it.
-Forest school starts next week, so please ensure your child has the correct clothing. The days are as follows:
-Please could children bring in their reading records every week.
