Thank you SO much for all your cardboard boxes – this is what we needed them for!!! We took the first steps towards creating our shadow puppet theatres this week, painting and designing the theatre on the boxes that will then be cut out and fitted with tissue paper to create the theatre. We’ll also soon be creating the puppets – watch this space.

This week’s English saw us use our learning about Perseus and Medusa from last week to create our own myths, swapping out Medusa for a monster of our own creation. This allowed us to flex our skills in writing direct speech. There’s some great practise online that you can access here.. There were some really great stories across all 3 classes, not to mention some scary monsters!

In maths, we continued adding fractions, but also began to subtract them for the first time. We also investigated the use of the inverse operation around fractions and then converting 1 into a fraction to subtract from it – whew! Luckily, there were some handy visuals around to help us figure out that head-scratcher. You can have another ago at this week’s maths sheets and challenges here.

In guided reading, we were back to Stig of the Dump and we made our way to the end of the third chapter. Stig and Barney are becoming fast friends! You can have another go at the find and copy questions and challenges here, using this chapter.

In P.E, we are doing tennis outdoors and practising different skills in the alternate lesson. Our tennis skills this week involved us beginning to serve the ball and then playing a target practise game to go with it. In Topic, we arranged key events related to shadow puppetry on a timeline and in Computing, we continued to design our presentations on our subjects of choice. In Science, we explored light reflecting from mirrors and wrote this up in our books.

Spanish sees us continue to develop vocabulary, now relating to fruits.

Next Week:

In English, it’s writing showcase time! Time to take what we’ve learnt from our stories about Perseus and apply it to a magnum opus that can be proudly displayed in our classrooms.

In maths, we are taking a breather to recap some addition and reasoning topics from earlier in the year.

Thank you again for all your support with resourcing and wishing you a restful weekend.

Best wishes,

Year 3 Team
