This week, we have really enjoyed being authors, writing some incredible stories about characters stranded in the Amazon Rainforest, inspired by our focus text ‘The Explorer.’

We have had a particular focus on our endings, an often neglected and less thought-through part of our stories. We thought carefully about what makes a great ending and how we can leave our readers feeling satisfied at the end of our stories. Our grammar focus has been on using co-ordinating and sub-ordinating conjunctions which we are becoming really confident with.

In Maths, we have been shopping all week! We have been applying our knowledge of column addition and subtraction to help us with money, using decimals. Here are our practice sheets for the week:Maths sheets

We had a real treat this week. Mike Mullen from the BMX Academy (https://www.bmxacademy.com/) came to do lead an assembly with us. By sharing his own story and journey with failure, he inspired us to keep going when we find things challenging. He talked about ‘flearn’; a term he coined that means how we can learn through failure. He inspired us that in these moments, we can choose to walk through the ‘I can’t’ door or the ‘I can’ door:

He also showed us some incredible tricks and persuaded some very brave teachers to take part in his finale…!

In Geography, we identified and located the rainforests in the world and in Science, we have really enjoyed watching our beans grow and evaluating the successes (and failures!!) of our experiments!

Next week

  • A reminder that on Monday, please can children bring in Maths board games from home (if you have them), with an accompanying set of instructions.
  • We will be teaching our SRE lessons too.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
