We have had another wonderful week in Year 1. We have all been impressing our teachers with our hard work and super attitudes to learning.

During English we continued to think about the magical land behind the door. This week we became authors and created our own stories about what happened to the little girl in ‘The Journey’ when she went through the magic door. We also remembered our learning from last week about noun phrases and used this to help us write ‘text messages’ from the last behind the door. We have also been reading sentences and showing our understanding by drawing pictures to match what we read.

In our Maths lessons we have been showing our teachers how well we can count groups of objects, give one more/one less and solivng simple equations. We have also been looking at the concept of ‘whole’ as being a group of objects.

During our Topic lessons we have been recapping our knowledge of the points of a compass and using this to give directions. We alsp celebrated World Food Day by thinking about the journey our food has been on and deciding how we will be food heroes.

Next week:

English- we will be thinking about the story ‘Little Boat’ and creating our own adventure stories.

Maths- we will be thinking about the part and whole of 5 and 6.

Phonics- we will be learning about the digraph ae (ai as in rain, ay as in play, a-e as in gate and ea as in great).

Topic- we will continue to explore the seasonal changes we can see in the school grounds. We will also be spending time in the art room creating our own portraits.

Thank you Year 1 for a super week!
