What a fantastic dragon-filled week we have had enjoying the beautiful illustrations of Jackie Morris’ book Tell Me a Dragon. Thank you to all the families who attended the Learning Conversations on Wednesday and Thursday, it was lovely to celebrate your children’s efforts and achievements this year and to begin to get excited about the next chapter in their learning adventures (Year 2!).
In English: We have begun to tell our own dragons, drawing and labelling then and writing expanded noun phrases describing the different features of our dragon, i.e. My dragon has spikey, golden horns. My dragon has a strong, protective tail.
In Mathematics: we have been challenging ourselves to put coins in order from lowest value to highest and add these together to pay for moat and castle extensions for King Richard.
In Topic: we learnt about the concept of chronology in history and placed some images in chronological order from past to present – what order would you put these images in?
We also learn about how we keep clean and healthy, the human body and how all families are different and special – we were so impressed with how respectful the children were as they listened and shared their understandings on these topics!
In PE: We continued to practice balancing and coordination through our new circus themed PE.
In English: We will be creating a page for an ‘Encyclopedia of Dragons’ making sure everyone knows about our amazing dragons and where they live and how they behave.
In Mathematics: We will extend our interest in money to looking at the concept of change and problem solving using this.
In Topic: We will look a bit more closely at the life of Richard II and find out about his coat of arms and create our own one considering the importance of symbols and what they tell people about us.
- Next week is the final week for clubs to take place.
- ‘Jump Up Day’ will take place on the Monday 19th of July – this will be an opportunity for children to experience their new Year 2 classroom and get to know their new teachers.
