Wow! Your children have really impressed us this week with their fantastic storytelling. They created their own versions of ‘The Heart and the Bottle’ and delighted their teachers with their wonderful writing.

During Maths we have been exploring the place value of numbers up to 100. The children have been successfully using the languages of ‘tens and ones’ to describe the place value of different numbers.

In Topic we explored the ‘space race’ during the 1960s. We imagined what life may have been like for those astronauts as they stepped onto the Moon for the very first time.

During PE we have continued to explore different dance moves inspired by the 1960s. We also responded to the emotions of different pieces of music through dance.

Next week:

English: we will be reading ‘Yes You Can’ and writing sentences about how we have changed and our wishes for the future.

Maths: we will be learning about the names and properties of 2D shapes.

Art: we will be creating our 1960s fashions!

A message from Miss Natale:

Dear Year 1 and 2 Parents and Carers,

As part of our Mental Health Week we will be looking at stories of change and growth in English inspired by the book You Can! You Can! : Alexandra Strick (author), : 9781913074609 : Blackwell's

We would like children to create their own stories and for this we would need a picture of them as a baby and a picture of them as a child.  These could be with family or alone, anything that they would like. It would be great if all children could bring this in by Wednesday 9th February so they can then use these in their English learning on Wednesday. The children will be sticking the pictures so please do not send pictures you would like back. Thank you in advance.

Please note that on the 11th February (next Friday) we will be celebrating our diverse school community. Please remember to send your children into school wearing something that is PURPLE.

Have a wonderful and restful weekend,

The Year One Team.
