This Week:
It was a real pleasure to see so many of you at the learning conversations on Thursday. We are so proud of the children and their learning.  There was so much to celebrate after just half a term.

This week, we have been so excited thinking all about fireworks and bonfire night!

In our writing we have been learning about onomatopoeia and using phonics to write words. We have enjoyed making soundscapes to accompany fireworks displays and reading Tony Mitton’s poem about fireworks night.

We were really interested in the different colours of the fireworks and decided to explore this in different ways. In our outdoor classroom we used pipettes to mix different colours.

During maths we made tally charts to find out which colour of firework was the most popular. This gave us a chance to practice our counting skills and use the language of most and least.

The sign of the week this week is sing! Very fitting given that we have just started learning the songs for our nativity play. We are doing really well learning the words to the opening song.

You should all have got a letter about costumes and parts in your book bag this week, please do let us know if this had not made it home.

Next Week:
We are learning about carnivals around the world next week so we will be doing lots of singing and dancing!

To build on our work about colours we will also be exploring colour mixing using paints and textures. We have got some trips to our lovely art room planned for next week.

Our Learning:
Some parents were asking about our marking code in reception this week. Each week we will provide you with some information about the way we are monitoring the children’s progress. Our marking policy is based on Development Matters, which is a document used in early years settings across the country. This document monitors age related learning goals. In Reception we work with learning statements within the 30 – 50 months category and the 40 – 60 months category. So, when you look at your child’s Learning Journey you will see these age categories being referred to. The children’s learning ensures they have experiences of statements in both categories with varying levels of independence. Next week we will explain the use of the terms emerging, developing and securing. If you have any questions about your child’s learning please do come and chat to your class teacher during soft start, we are happy to answer any questions.

Reminders:
We are going to be making musical instruments next week during group learning time. Please could you bring in junk modelling materials to school next week. Any boxes, tubs and tubes would be greatly appreciated!

In Reception we are doing our PE in the gym so the children need indoor PE kits (shorts, T-shirt and daps). We will return to outdoor PE when the weather warms up.

Thank you for all of your support, enjoy the weekend and we will see you all on Monday.
