This week the Reception children have been continuing to broaden their knowledge and understanding of different animals. At Shepreth wildlife park, our first big trip away, the children showed great joy and excitement at seeing these animals up close and learning interesting facts and figures. On this trip all of the children showed our schools golden agreements and we are all very proud of them for the fabulous listening and respect shown on this day. Thanks again to all the wonderful parent helpers that joined us, it was lovely to have you and we are very grateful for all your help.

In Phonics this week the children have been revisiting some common exception words: ‘is’, ‘the’, ‘I’, ‘for’, ‘of’, ‘are’, ‘was’, ‘all’, ‘come’, ‘some’. We have also been spelling words with 5 sounds in them (drink, print, stink, slump, spend, swept). Can you have a go at reading and writing these words at home? Are you forming all of your letters correctly?

On Wednesday, all of the children had an assembly in the hall with Tiago, the school chef. He taught us all about fruits and vegetables and the importance of eating healthily. The children were encouraged to try new fruits and vegetables at home using their five senses. I wonder which fruit and vegetables you will try this weekend?

This term it has been lovely to have Jenny, our wonderful singing teacher in to visit all three classes of Reception. We sang some old favourites and learnt some new songs that Jenny wrote herself. After the Easter break, we are very lucky to have Jenny returning on Mondays to sing with us, as well as starting our gymnastics lessons with Mr Moffat.

We hope that you all have a wonderful school holidays. On Tapestry you will find an optional learning project (holiday diary). Which we hope to share within the first week back.
