We hope you enjoyed the beginning of our intergalactic adventure into space. On Monday morning, we had a mystery object land in our playground. We were super detectives discussing who may have landed it, why did it come to Earth and how can we help them get back home again. We used are new knowledge to help us step into the role of news reporters to write fantastic sentences about our findings. Well done everyone!

We have been very busy this week completing our challenges. We have been learning to perform our favourite counting songs, creating playground games to teach Beegu and her alien friends as well as learning to write secret messages in “alien language”.

This week’s learning

In Phonics we have learnt the two more tricky words ‘there’ and ‘were’. Can you find these two words in your books at home this weekend? I wonder which one will be the most popular one.

In Maths, the children have been continuing to develop their understanding of number bonds to five focusing on subtraction. We have been using our knowledge to solve how many pieces are missing under buckets, creating number bond paper chains and singing subtraction songs.

During our group time sessions we have been learning about the order of the planets in the solar system as well as focusing in depth about Mercury. Can you tell your grown ups a fact you have learnt about Mercury?

Next Week’s Learning:

Next week the whole school will be immersed in Art projects based around the song ‘Hajanga’. We will complete artist led workshops in dance, music and art. The children will be using their instruments that they made this week (red challenge), they will also be learning about body percussion and practising their performance skills. In class, we will be focusing on different poems about ‘weather’. How many different types of weather can you think of? We will design our own suitcases and contribute to the whole school’s art project that will be displayed on the World Map Entrance to school.

There will be no rainbow challenges to complete next week. We have planned many exciting activities linked to different types of weather.

Important Announcements

NO Forest School for anyone next week because of Arts Week. We appreciate the flexibility and understanding of this. We are in discussion to see whether these sessions can rearranged before the end of term.

Please could we have any donations of pants, socks and vests aged 4 to 6 year old as our spare clothe box is nearly empty! If you have used any this year for your child please could these be returned.

Although we have had some lovely hot weather the past week, we still request that children bring a light raincoat to school to wear incase the weather changes.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Reception Team
