Well done on finishing your first term in Reception at University of Cambridge Primary School.

We are really proud of all the learning that your Acorn, Pumpkin and Sunflower has done over this term. Looking ahead to the holidays if you want to keep reading phonetically decodable books with your Acorn, Pumpkin and Sunflower, you can use Bug Club. This is an online reading resource. In your child’s Reading Record you will find a sticker stating your child’s login details for Bug Club. Your class teacher will have allocated some books to your child for over the holidays.

Of course, keep reading all the amazing stories, comic books, information texts and signs that you know your child enjoys. When you are enjoying these texts you can pick a ‘high frequency word’ from the list provided in the Reading Record and challenge your Acorn, Pumpkin and Sunflower to see how many times they can spot the word in their book.

When it is chilly outside it is lovely to curl up inside with a book, but there is also lots of amazing learning you can do outdoors.  The Woodland Trust have lots of ideas that you could do together over the holidays.  Some ideas we liked the look of are bark-rubbing, ladybird-printing, mini-den-building and a scavenger-hunt.

Thank you for all your support over this first term.  We really appreciate your involvement and your enthusiasm.

See you tomorrow morning for The Nativity performance.

Enjoy the winter break.
