It is wonderful to be back at school after the holiday. Thank you for bringing your decorated plates back, we have really enjoyed talking with the children about the food they eat at special times of year. If you have not brought your plate back please do bring it back after the weekend.
We have started our new topic Celebrations learning all about Diwali this week. We were lucky enough to have a parent from Pumpkin class coming into school and tell us all about how she celebrates Diwali with her family. It was amazing to see how to make Rangoli patterns and listen to the Diwali story.
We were inspired to create our own Rangoli patterns using watercolours, we explored how to mix colours and use a paint brush very carefully.
From our visitor we learnt that sweets are very important at Diwali so we decided to make barfi sweets. We worked as a team to measure quantities and follow the recipe. We loved trying this new food and doing some cooking.
We will be learning about fireworks. We will be using art, poetry, song and dance to learn more about fireworks. If you are watching fireworks this weekend with your Acorn, Pumpkin or Sunflower you might want to talk about the shapes, colours and noises of fireworks. The children have been learning Makaton signs. A sign you could try this weekend is ‘firework’. Make sure you wrap up warm and stay safe.
Please remember to bring your child’s school photo back if you would like to get copies.
Learning conversations are happening next week, these will take place with your class teacher and your child. When you arrive go to the school office. They will allow you to collect your child for the shared learning conversation after which it will be your child’s home time.
If you have any kitchen roll tubes please could you bring these to school next week to help with our art work.
Have a wonderful weekend, we look forward to another week packed full of learning and fun!
