Thanks to everyone that came out to Sports Day on Monday! We learned about inclusive sports in the morning with John Wallis from Power2Inspire. We participated in many events.
This week we have been looking at the transition to Year 1.
In literacy we wrote about what we were looking forward to in Year 1, here are some of the children’s comments:
‘I am looking forward to making new friends.’
‘I am looking forward to seeing my new teacher.’
‘I am excited to do mathematician work because I like challenge.’
In maths we built 2D and 3D shapes using clay and lolly pop sticks, we looked at what properties each shape has after we built them. During independent learning time the children drew pictures of what they wanted to see in their new classroom next year and labelled them.
We also visited the Butterfly and Bumblebee classrooms to familiarise ourselves with the new surroundings and imagine what the first day might be like. We spoke how moving to Year 1 might make us feel, and if that emotion was negative, how we could make ourselves feel better:
‘Scared because it’s a new classroom but it’s ok because some of my friends will be there to.’
‘Excited because we have chicks next year.’
‘Sad because our (reception) teachers won’t be there.’
We also shared our home learning projects this week to a group of our peers. Each child had the chance to present their project and answer questions on their chosen country.
- Next Tuesday is the school trip! All children need their own backpack with a water bottle, waterproofs and one set of spare clothes in (including underwear!) Children to wear own clothes, they must wear a long sleeved top and full length trousers (no shorts please!) If your child comes into school without these things they will not be allowed on the trip and you will be sent home to retrieve the missing items.
- Hard copy books are no longer being sent home with your child, however you can still access books on Bug Club.
- No more junk modelling please, thank you for your contributions this year 🙂
- School will finish at 1.30pm on Thursday 21st July.
