This week
In our classrooms this week, children have been using imaginative role play to think about what they want to do when they are older. In the gymnasium, children have set up schedules for swimming classes. In the doctors, children have run consultations. In the museum, children have selected and labelled items for the gift shop.
Our phonics learning, has been focused on spotting and using the digraphs ‘ar’, ‘ai’ and ‘th’. We have also learnt to recognise the tricky word ‘what’.
In maths, we have investigated estimation. The children have discussed how it is different from counting and how it can be used to help us understand quantities.
Next week
Our topic ‘To infinity and Beyond’ will allow us to focus on moving across to Year One. There will be the opportunity to reflect on what they have learnt this year in Reception by looking at their learning journeys. The children will also use their Philosophy for Children skills to think about what they will need for their learning in Year One. There will also be a letter writing station to allow the children to write to their new Year One teachers.
In phonics, we will continue to focus on spotting and using digraphs in sentences. We will also look at the tricky word ‘when’.
In maths we will be looking at surveys, gathering information about how many children are in what classes next year. We will use our data gathering skills to find out more about our new class mates, such as favourite colour and favourite playful learning activity.
Home learning
This weekend, to support your child’s learning why not take a walk and see how many occupations you can spot, for example bus drivers, postal worker and shop keeper.
Safeguarding
The NSPCC have put together some resources for parents called ‘Talk PANTS and help keep your child safe’. Please see the guidance for advice about how parents can help their child understand that: their body belongs to them, they have a right to say no and that they should tell an adult if they are ever worried.
Reminders
Next week, on Monday, Reception will have their sports day in the morning. P.E. kits will go home tonight (Friday) so that children can be changed and ready in their P.E. kits for a prompt start on Monday morning.
Next week, we also have two teddy bears picnics. On Tuesday, in the afternoon, the new Reception children and their families will be visiting the school and meeting the current Reception families. On Thursday, in the afternoon, current Reception children and their families will have the chance to meet with current Year One families.
